The lightweight chassis on the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

For any given component of a vehicle, there's a particular material which is ideally suited. That is why both aluminium and steel are used in the construction of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Certain engine parts, the bonnet and the front-end structure including side walls are all made of aluminium. As well as reducing overall weight, this ensures an even distribution of weight between the front and rear axles: 50:50 axle load - a key factor in the outstanding agility of the BMW 5 Series.
