The Sports Activity Vehicle comes with an optional panorama glass roof. Each half of the panorama roof can be angled at the touch of a button. The front section has an additional slide function. When the roof is open, the wind deflector reduces any turbulence by changing angle according to vehicle speed. The electric sunblind offers extra protection against direct sunlight.

Giving you eyes where you need them, the optional rear view camera, which is barely visible behind the rear number plate, allows drivers to detect objects that they may not be able to see in the rear-view mirror. An 120° wide-angle image is shown in the central iDrive display and interactive trace lines in the picture inform the driver straight away whether or not the parking space is big enough. Images can be enlarged using the zoom function to make activities such as attaching a trailer quick and simple. And thanks to the Top View, the driver is also able to monitor the side view making it easy to check their distance to the curb when parking.

Eliminating boredom on long journeys: the optional rear-seat entertainment system for the second row of seats includes a large, stowable 8-inch colour monitor in the centre console, a DVD player for playing audio, video and photo CDs and DVDs, a remote control, and sockets for two cable and infrared headphones, meaning back-seat passengers can enjoy their entertainment without disturbing the driver.

The driver prefers to keep a cool head while rear-seat passengers appreciate warmer temperatures? Not a problem. The optional new 4-zone automatic air conditioning allows passengers to create their own personal comfort zone. Additional air outlets means separate ventilation conditions can be created for passengers in the rear. The temperature is adjusted easily using controls located in the centre console.

Storage systems in the BMW X5.

Plenty of space for plenty of things. The new BMW X5 comes with a spacious and easily accessible glove compartment that is unique in this class. Thanks to the lower flap, contents can no longer fall out unintentionally upon opening. Stereo speakers have also been repositioned under the seats to create space for large storage compartments in the doors. And two cupholders are fitted for each row of seats to prevent liquids from spilling during the journey.

Intelligent headrests in the BMW X5.

Unexpected and abrupt head and neck movements carry a high risk of injury during rear-end collisions. Intelligent headrests help to significantly reduce this risk: during an impact to the rear of the vehicle they move forward within 20 milliseconds to protect passengers' heads as they jolt backwards.
