Driving dynamics
In order to combine excellent protection with exceptional driving dynamics, the BMW engineers had to come up with a unique solution: an intelligent combination of materials that meet the strictest safety requirements while adding as little weight as possible and not compromising the responsiveness and agility for which BMW is known.
Functionality and comfort
These individually programmable buttons offer quick access to security-related functions and only BMW offers functional bookmarks as standard. Drivers can assign these shortcut buttons to the functions of their choice and they are potentially invaluable at moments of danger; for example, at the touch of a button you can summon assistance, or have the navigation system display the quickest route home.
BMW CONNECTED DRIVE & SAFETY SYSTEMS.
BMW ConnectedDrive reflects the philosophy of integration of the vehicle, driver and environment in an intelligent network. Short distances are bridged by ultrasound while mobile radio technology is used for the larger ones. The intelligent interaction between online services, Driver Assistance systems, call centre services and integration solutions for smartphones supports BMW drivers in numerous ways – whether it’s by providing more comfort, the right information at the right time or the reassuring feel of being safe on all roads.
Attack alarm & intercom system
Always to hand for driver and front-seat passenger, yet out of sight of prying eyes: the attack alarm and intercom system are controlled via the security switch cluster in the centre console.
Night Vision
BMW Night Vision with Dynamic Light Spot detects people and larger animals at a long distance − and selectively illuminates them. A thermal image camera in the radiator grille with a range of up to 300 metres relays images of people and animals directly onto the Control Display. Additional warnings are provided when the thermal image is activated in the multifunctional instrument display. In the event of an acute risk, an acoustic warning signal is also sounded and the brakes are set to maximum standby.
ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT FOR SPECIAL REQUESTS.
Sometimes you need more than just protection. For roles such as carrying dignitaries or security escort duties, a vehicle must have the ability to reveal in seconds that it is on official business in order to get the job done. BMW has been producing Authority Vehicles for over 50 years, working in close cooperation with authorities and government agencies all over the world. Flashing lights, hailing systems with different siren effects, signalling devices, radios, and even flag holders for official use.
Authorities Equipment
LED flashing lights can be located discreetly behind the BMW kidney grille, remaining unnoticed unless the need arises for special signals. For official use, a flashing beacon can be magnetically attached to the roof . The holder is located in the luggage compartment, or, if required, in the driver’s door, keeping it within easy reach for deployment while driving.
Flag holder for diplomatic
This can be located discreetly on the bonnet, at either side. On formal and official trips, it is often mandatory for vehicles belonging to official bodies, governments and embassies to have flags on display. A holder for such official flags is available on request.
Mobility preservation
Laminated security glass with a polycarbonate coating provides excellent protection against spalling und run-flat tyres ensure you stay mobile when it matters most. Depending on model, other safety features include airbag off and a self-sealing fuel tank.
BMW SECURITY DRIVER TRAINING.
Training for the worst-case scenario is a good way to make sure it never happens. The BMW approach to security goes beyond just the vehicle itself. Specially-tailored driver training courses are also available, teaching skills that are useful to any Security Vehicle driver and demonstrating how to get the most out of the BMW X5 Security, the BMW X5 Security Plus and the BMW 7 Series High Security. In three different types of trainings, drivers are given the opportunity to practice the best ways to handle dangerous situations – because that way, hopefully these situations will never arise. BMW Basic Training for Professionals
Focuses on the fundamentals of driving dynamics and vehicle handling, as well as negotiating everyday traffic safely, with both theoretical and practical elements. This training module is carried out in unarmoured vehicles.

Building on what drivers learned from Basic Security Driver Training, this module deepens participants’ theoretical and practical knowledge of driving dynamics and vehicle handling. It also covers more challenging manoeuvres at higher speeds, such as double lane changes and escape turns, which participants practise in armoured vehicles.

This takes what participants learned in the Advanced Security Driver Training module to the next level, once again using a mixture of practice and theory. It also looks at what constitutes security-conscious driving, including ways of recognising and reacting to potential danger situations. Practical exercises range from reverse slaloming to coordinating tactical turns between multiple vehicles driving in convoy.
